Our Rich History

Our Legacy Statement

founderThe legacy of the Congregation of the Poor Sisters of Jesus Crucified and the Sorrowful Mother, founded by Rev. Alphonsus Maria, C.P., in 1924 to serve the poor, elderly and dying of all faith traditions, continues to inspire the healing ministry of St. Joseph Manor.

Keeping with the mission and vision of Rev. Alphonsus Maria, the Sisters of Jesus Crucified and Covenant Health, St. Joseph Manor continues to respond to the needs of residents, clients and external community members with a focus on the elderly and underserved.

Today, during daily work hours some Sisters are at the nursing home or the adult day care center. A few Sisters have jobs in related nursing services or spend time tutoring students. We continue to carry out our ministry to the poor by distributing food and clothing, and through telephone ministry or other various volunteer opportunities.
